Ricky Weiss dominates Woolridge Memorial field at Richmond

Ricky Weiss

Just as he did last year, Ricky Weiss drove into the Richmond Raceway victory lane at the end of the Paul ‘Butterball’ Woolridge Memorial feature race. Unlike last year when the No. 7w machine took the lead in the closing laps, the race was in hand throughout for the driver who builds his own chassis.

The Sniper Race Cars driver from Headingly, Manitoba, Canada earned $20,059 for his efforts on the track located in Richmond, Kentucky.

A total of 31 cars were signed in for competition

Feature Re-cap: At the start of the 59-lap feature it was Johnson who took the early lead over Weiss, Hardy, Bailes and Jameson. Weiss would wrest the lead away from Johnson on the second circuit while Carpenter broke into the top-5 by passing Bailes.

Weiss then began to pull away building a lead of more than two seconds. Further back, Jameson and Bailes fought for the fifth position on lap 10.

By lap 13, Weiss began to encounter heavy traffic. Hardy passed by Johnson to grab second as his pursuers began to close on the race leader. Carpenter continued to rise as he moved around Johnson for third on lap 16.

The first yellow flag of the night waved on lap 33 when Creech spun. On the restart, Hardy and Carpenter staged a side-by-side battle for second that would go on for multiple laps until Hardy reaffirmed himself in that position.

Weiss would continued lead, fighting with slower traffic all the while with Hardy and Carpenter in pursuit until Trent slowed on lap 45 to bring out a caution. Carpenter was able to move into second on the restart as Weiss continued to show the way.

Hardy regained second from Carpenter on lap 52 but Weiss would complete the closing laps unchallenged as he scored the win.

***Hardy was disqualified from his apparent second-place finish following the race***
