Ricky Thornton Jr. added another win

Ricky Thornton Jr. added another mark into the win column on Thursday night as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series made it’s way to Huset’s Speedway for a preliminary lead-in to Saturday’s Silver Dollar Nationals. Taking the lead from Jonathan Davenport prior to the halfway point in the race, the No. 20RT car had to carefully work through slower traffic on the tight bullring in order to come out on top.

The Longhorn Chassis driver from Martinsville, Indiana earned $12,000 from the track located in Brandon, SD in a race shown live by FloRacing.com.

A total of 36 cars were signed in for competition

Feature Re-cap: The 50-lap contest got underway with Davenport ahead of Pierce, Simpson, Bronson and Thornton, Thornton fell back in the early going as Alberson took the fifth position away from him on the sixth lap. Then both Alberson and Thornton were able to get around Bronson for fourth and fifth respectively on lap 7.

By lap 10, Thornton had worked his way up to third as Davenport attempted to get away from the pack. However, Pierce and Thornton were determined to not let that happen as they closed in on the race leader by lap 15.

On lap 16, Thornton took the runner-up position away from Pierce and set off after Davenport. Then on lap 19, the No. 20RT caught up with the No. 49 and made the move to capture the lead as the cars worked though slower traffic.

Traffic continued to play a role as Thornton, Davenport and Pierce battled each other while also having to pick their way through slower cars. But over the closing laps, it would be Thornton who would outrun the pack to the checkered flag to score the win.
