Ashton Winger beats Southern Nationals field to claim Senoia victory

Ashton Winger wins on his home track

Ashton Winger has for some time now been tough to beat at Senoia Raceway and that once again proved to be true when the hometown driver beat the pack in the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals-sanctioned Roscoe Smith Classic. Feature Re-cap: At the start of the 44-lap feature it was Winger who went to the early lead with Ferguson, Scott, Horton and Millwood in tow. The top-3 mixed it up early with Winger ultimately coming out on top.

By lap 10 the top-3 of Winger, Ferguson and Scott had broken away from the pack with Winger and Ferguson eventually separating themselves from Scott. At one point on lap 16, Winger and Ferguson found themselves in a three-wide battle for the lead as they split around a slower car.

For the most part, Winger employed a high line around the track, especially in turns one and two, while Ferguson ran around the bottom of the speedway. But by the halfway point, Winger had begun to slip away from his pursuers.

As the race entered its closing stages, most cars ran around the bottom of the track. Even a couple of late race cautions did not deter Winger’s efforts but they did open the door for a charge by Page that would ultimately pull the No. 18x up to third in the final running order.

But in the end, it was Winger who ruled the day and claimed victory.
