English, Bronson & Overton claim WoO Late Models qualifiers at Talladega

Ahead of Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win Alabama Gang 100 at the Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Late Model Series staged three qualifying races on Friday night at the facility located just across the street from NASCAR’s Talladega Super Speedway.

The top-2 from each of the triple features went to a redraw that would set the lineup for a dash race that will determine the first three rows for Saturday night’s main event.

Tanner English, Kyle Bronson and Brandon Overton were the winners of their respective features on Friday night. Each driver also collected $4,000 for their efforts.

A total of 62 cars were signed in for competition.

Tanner English won the first feature

Race 1

Feature Recap: The 20-lap feature began with Troutman taking the early lead followed by English, Shirley, Ferguson and Madden. English got by Troutman to grab the lead on the second circuit and began to pull away.

Shirley wrested the runner-up spot away from Troutman on lap 5 but was well behind English by that time. English eventually drove on to take the checkered flag ahead of the pack.

Kyle Bronson won the second feature

Feature Recap: After the first attempt to start the race was waved off, Bronson took took the lead the second time around over Davenport, Hughes, Larson and Pierce. Pierce and Larson began what would become a race-long fight for position on the third lap when Pierce took fourth from the NASCAR star.

Bronson began to pull away by the seventh lap while the fight raged on between Pierce and Larson. Eventually, Pierce would move further forward by passing Hughes for third. But in the end, it was Bronson who would score the victory.

Brandon Overton won the third feature

Race 3

Feature Recap: It was Overton who grabbed the early lead with Knowles, Smith, Gundaker and Sheppard in his tire tracks, On the fourth lap, Knowles slowed and gave up several positions just before a lap 5 caution slowed the pace.

On the lap 5 restart, Gundaker got by Smith for second as Overton continued to show the way. Page and Sheppard fought hard for the fifth spot with contact sending Sheppard up the track and out of the position.

Page tagged the rear of Millwood’s car on lap 13 sending both machines for a spin to bring out another yellow flag. What proved to be the most physical of the three features ended with Overton streaking across the finish line ahead of the pack.
