The North Georgia Speedway hosted the Ultimate Super Late Model Series on Saturday night, but the Chatsworth facility also conducted racing in its regular weekly classes as well. And in some cases, the action was quite intense.
The Crate Late Model division saw its outcome decided by some furious racing and a wild crash.
With no qualifying for this class, the feature lineup was determined entirely by heat races. The first of two heats was won by Joe Picklesimer over Jason Deal and Nick Sellers. The second preliminary was taken by T.J. Brittain ahead of Tanner Works and Colby Kilgore.
The feature began with Picklesimer going to the early lead from his pole starting position with Deal, Brittain and Works following closely behind. There was hard racing all throughout the field in the early going as the race would run caution free until lap 17.
Briefly, Picklesimer was able to edge out to an advantage of a few car lengths with Deal, Works and Brittain trailing during the race’s first half. However, slower traffic would become a factor and the pursuers were able to reel in the leader as a result.
Lap 17 proved to the deciding circuit. Picklesimer found himself trapped behind a couple of slower machines with Deal and Works close behind. As the lead car went high around one of those cars being lapped, Deal attempted to shoot through the middle in a three wide move. That hole closed up and the three cars came together. Deal’s car went briefly airborne while Picklesimer was turned head on into the outside wall.
Both of the top-2 were eliminated in the incident but the drivers were reported to be uninjured.
From that point, Tanner Works would lead to the finish and take the win with Josh Walker, T.J. Brittain, Nick Sellers and Ricky Smith following.
In the Sportsman class, Wesley Seabolt started from the pole and took the early lead. However, fifth starting Caleb Patton tracked him down by lap 5 and made the move to take over the top spot.
From that point, Patton would pull away to claim the win ahead of a good battle that saw Junior Whitener, Wesley Seabolt and Coty Long follow the winner to the checkered flag.
In the A-Hobby class, Beau Bice won the night’s only heat race over Justin Walston and Derek Chapman to set the starting lineup for the feature.
After 15 laps of feature racing, those same results were repeated as Bice took the win over Walston and Chapman.
David Rogers was the B-Hobby winner over Jacob Stuart. A little extra-curricular activity between two other drivers after the conclusion of that feature briefly entertained the crowd.
