Rico Abreu scores Lincoln Park win as Kyle Larson earns High Limit championship

Rico Abreu needed to win the season finale feature and hope for a bit of misfortune by Kyle Larson to win the High Limit Sprint Car Series title. The driver of the No. 24 did his part by earning the feature win at Lincoln Park Speedway but came up just shy of accomplishing both goals on Tuesday night.

Larson was ultimately crowned as the 2023 High Limit championship although led the tour’s inaugural season with four victories,

The Rico Abreu Racing driver from St. Helena, California earned $23,023 from the track located in Putnamville, Indiana in a race aired live by FloRacing.com.

A total of 38 cars were signed in for competition

Feature Re-cap: The 40-lap feature began with Abreu ahead of Henry, Eliason, Madsen and Courtney. Quickly, Madsen went on the move passing Eliason for third. 

Madsen then jumped to second, passing Henry on lap 3. Larson, who needed a finish of sixth or better to secure the championship, passed Peck for seventh on lap 4.

A lap 9 yellow flag for Kofoid slowed the pace just as Larson had moved into sixth. On the restart, Henry moved back to second as Larson took fifth. However, Bacon regained fifth from Larson one lap later.

Henry moved into challenge Abreu for the race lead as the race reached the halfway point and traffic began to become a factor for the front runners. Larson again moved to fifth and then passed Courtney for fourth on lap 25.

Bacon spun to bring out a yellow on lap 26 with Abreu leading Henry, Madsen, Courtney and Larson. On the restart, contact sent Henry into a spin who then collected Eliason and Sanders. Larson missed the incident by inches. Following the mishap, Abreu led Madsen, Courtney, Larson and Peck.

Larson jumped to second on lap 28 just behind Abreu. Further back, Peck and Thomas battled for fifth.

Courtney wrested third from Madsen on lap 37 as Larson drew alongside Abreu in traffic. On the last lap, Courtney got by Larson to claim the runner-up spot but Abreu would sail under the checkered flag to score the win.
