Randy Weaver lays claim to Spring Nats feature at Dixie Speedway

Randy Weaver led all the way to earn the win

The Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series rolled through the gates of the Dixie Speedway on Saturday night to contest the seventh of nine races on that mini-tour. When all was said and done, it was Randy Weaver who collected the checkered flag for his win at the Woodstock, GA facility. The Crossville, TN driver earned $4,053 for his efforts in a race shown live by FloRacing.com.

A total of 29 cars were signed in for competition.

Randy Weaver proved to be fastest in Group A qualifying after he turned a lap of 15.280 seconds around the 3/8 mile clay oval to beat out Michael Page, Donald McIntosh, Dalton Cook and David Payne.

Austin Horton led the way in Group B time-trials with a lap of 15.351 seconds topping Brandon Overton, Tyler Millwood, Dale McDowell, and Shawn Chastain.

The top-5 from each qualifying group were locked into the feature.

Ahnna Parkhurst won the first B-main race ahead of Jordy Nipper, Lamar Haygood, Dalton Polston, and Gary McPherson.

Zack Mitchell took the second B-main over Jason Croft, Todd Morrow, Dallas Cooper, and Derrick Ramey.

Weaver bolted to the early lead at the start of the 40-lap feature with Horton, Page, McIntosh, and Overton trailing. And quickly, Weaver asserted his dominance by pulling away from the single-file formation behind him. The top-5 of Weaver, Horton, Page, McIntosh, and Overton began to tighten as they raced among slower traffic.

Page attempted to make an outside move for second as he worked to get alongside of Horton but the moved backfired and he fell back to fifth. Overton was able to take third from McIntosh on lap 19 when McIntosh slipped up the banking. The No. 76 then chased down Weaver and Horton and those three cars ran in close formation as the feature entered its second half.

Gary McPherson slowed on lap 25 to bring out a yellow flag. On the ensuing restart, Overton moved to second place and looked to threaten Weaver for the top spot.

Further back, Spring Nationals points leader McDowell rode in sixth just before Page’s car faltered to bring out a caution on lap 29 which then moved McDowell into the top-5. On that restart, McDowell moved further forward as he assumed the fourth while Mitchell followed along to break into the top-5.

Over the closing laps, Weaver went largely unchallenged to drive under the checkered flag and claim the victory.
