The Topless Outlaws Dirt late Model Series offered up a Halloween treat on Saturday afternoon at 411 Motor Speedway. The tour that features Limited Late Model cars racing without a top staged their second race of the weekend which was won by Randy Weaver in dominating fashion. The Crossville, Tenn. driver left the Seymour, Tenn. track with a winner’s check valued at $5,100.
Cory Hedgecock won on Friday night at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA.
Dakotah Knuckles was fastest in Group A qualifying as he toured the 3/8 mile clay oval in 15.625 seconds to beat out Ronnie Johnson, Cory Hedgecock, Austin Neely, John Ownbey, Josh Collins, Ruben Mayfield, Kenny Collins, Eddie King Jr. and Taylor Puckett.
Randy Weaver was quickest in Group B time-trials and overall with a lap of 15.551. That time bested the efforts of Chase King, Jed Emert, Greg Martin, Brad Berry, Rusty Ballenger, Bobby Giffin, Ryan King, Brad Seagle and Jason Trammell.
The top-10 from each qualifying group were locked into the feature.
Trevor Sise won the lone B-main used to set the remainder of the starting grid for the main event over Mike Price, Ellery Leake and Buddy Isles.
Weaver immediately shot to the race lead when the green flag waved to start the 51-lap feature ahead of Knuckles, Johnson, King and Hedgecock. Within four laps in the books, the No. 85 machine had already built a lead of a full straightaway over Knuckles. Further back, Johnson, King and Hedgecock found themselves racing for third in three-wide formation.
Hedgecock took fourth away from King on lap 15 and then quickly added to his gain by passing Johnson for third soon afterwards.
A caution flag slowed the action briefly on lap 22. On the ensuing restart, it was Hedgecock who took advantage and moved into the runner-up position behind Weaver. Knuckles, Johnson and King continued to fight for the remaining positions within top-5.
By lap 30, Weaver had driven away from his pursuers while King was passing by Johnson to claim the fourth spot. King later moved up to take third away from Knuckles. Johnson would follow suit, passing Knuckles for fourth as the laps clicked away.
In the end, it was Weaver who would cruise under the checkered flag to score the victory.
Chase King’s third place finish secured the season-long Topless Outlaws Dirt Late Model Series championship.
