Since switching to a Longhorn Chassis, Randy Weaver has been unbeatable. The Crossville driver scored two Ultimate Super Late Models Series victories just over a week ago when he won at Smoky Mountain and North Georgia on consecutive nights. And now, he has added yet another trophy to his collection with a win in the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals presented by Old Man’s Garage event at the 411 Motor Speedway on Tuesday night.
Weaver collected $3,500 for his efforts in what was the second of the ten race mini-series.
Weaver began the night by posting the fastest time in Group B qualifying as well as overall when he laid down a lap of 13.456 seconds around the 3/8 mile clay oval. Hometown driver Ryan King was fastest in Group A with a lap of 13.715 seconds. Those two drivers were joined by respective second fastest qualifiers in each group, Chad Ogle and Austin Smith, for a dash race that would set the front two rows on the starting grid for the feature.
King won that dash preliminary ahead of Weaver, Smith and Ogle.
The two B-main races used to set the remainder of the starting lineup were won by Stacy Boles and Chris Madden.
At the start of the feature, Weaver left no doubt that he was the man to beat. The #116 car bolted to the lead from his outside front row starting spot with King, Smith and a hard charging Madden in his wake.
Virtually the only thing that kept the field within shouting distance of Weaver were the five caution flags that slowed the action. The leader built margins of a full straightaway on a couple of occasions. At least two of those yellows came at particularly opportune times for the leader as he found himself battling heavy traffic.
Madden, a four-time champion of the series, was able to get around King just prior to a lap 24 caution but was unable to keep pace with Weaver over the closing laps.
At the finish, it was Randy Weaver, Chris Madden, Ryan King, Austin Smith, Chad Ogle, Vic Hill, Stacy Boles, Eric Jacobsen, Anthony Burroughs and Donald McIntosh making out the top-10.
