Quick Six: Start of summer offerings

Though summer does not technically start until June 21, Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kick off to the start of summer. Here are some random thoughts as summer gets under way.

1. In seeing some of the same drivers winning each week, it would be nice to see the bounty make a come back. Adds more interest for the fans and gives the drivers more incentive to knock off the top dog.

2. After seeing a number of races in Kentucky the last few years, it seems that having a scoreboard is a luxury in that state.

3. Even though dust is a by-product of dirt racing, dusty infields at area tracks is as bad as I have seen it in a long time. Fans don’t like it and photography equipment suffers from it. Some water on these areas would be much appreciated by all.

4. Things will get more interesting with Cleveland Speedway switching to Saturday nights. Saturdays are already crowded and car counts are thin in some places as it is already. Stay tuned.

5. Time limits are a good thing when it takes almost an hour to run a 20-lap race. Racers complain because they don’t get all their laps. Fans don’t pay good money to see caution laps for an hour. Maybe some tracks need to enact or shorten their rule about a driver can be in so many cautions before being parked for the night.

6. Race tracks with a Twitter account need to realize if they follow more people, more people will follow them. Only following one person (and it’s not a racing person) is a bit of an embarrassment.
