Mack McCarter picked up one of the biggest wins of his career on Saturday night when the young driver scored a $4,400 victory in the Buddy Rogers Memorial Chevy Super Series feature event at the Tazewell Speedway. And as is always the case, his older brother Pierce was right beside him to celebrate in Victory Lane.
Pierce McCarter has served in just about every role imaginable in dirt racing. He has driven, performed crew chief duties, bought and sold race cars and assisted in track preparation at his family’s 411 Motor Speedway.
So what exactly is Pierce’s place in the dirt racing world?
“I kind of ask myself that same question every now and then,” McCarter declared. “I had a lot of success there early on(as a driver) then I kind of laid back to help my brother out. We were able to get some good runs this year in the NeSmith Series. We ran 2nd a lot while we were hunting for that win.
McCarter went on to add, “As for myself, I still like to drive every now and then, but I have just as much fun crew chiefing for my brother. I’ve learned a lot about the cars tire wise and set up wise and I feel like we have just as good of a team as any.”
Now that they have that win they were hunting for, Pierce plans to continue serving in his role as crew chief for Mack. As the duo searches for more victories, he hopes their work together will lead to even more success.
“Really I’ve just kind of taken a back seat in my driving to where I could help him progress and hopefully we can go pretty far with that,” Pierce explained.
Aside from crew chief and driver, McCarter also assists other drivers and teams in finding and preparing their cars to be successful.
“I like to help other guys,” he said. “Brian Courtney and some other guys have come to me and I’ve helped them with their set ups to kind of help get them going. And we’ve been able to find cars for people, to sell stuff for people and really trying to help everybody out. I really like to drive, but at the same time, I really like what I’m doing now, and that’s helping everybody.
“Of course, my brother is my main focus. That’s our team, but I help people when I can. It makes me feel good that I know enough about these cars to help people out.”
The McCarter brothers will be in search of their second consecutive win in the Chevy Super Series when that tour visits 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour on Saturday night.
