411 Motor Speedway played host to the Tennessee State Championships on Saturday night with the Crate Late Model division playing a major role in that event. When all was said and done at the Seymour, Tennessee track it was Mack McCarter who scored the victory. The CVR Race Cars driver from Gatlinburg, Tennessee earned $2,000 for his efforts.
A total of 22 cars were signed in for competition.
Cory Hedgecock was fastest in qualifying after he posted a lap time of 14.438 seconds to beat out Mack McCarter, Jake Teague, Greg Martin, Bradley Lewelling, Tyler Price, Terry Poore, Tim Bounds, Rusty Ballenger and Jesse Lowe.
Track officials opted to align the feature starting grid based solely off of qualifying results.
At the start of the 30-lap feature it was McCarter who went to the lead ahead of Hedgecock, Teague, Martin and Price. A lap 2 caution for a spin by Brodie Sharp slowed the action. A second caution on lap 6 for a mishap involving Sharp and Dylan Morgan.
The intensity amped up following that restart as Price and Martin battled for fourth. Further back, Lowe and Lewelling fought over sixth. At the front of the field, McCarter began to slip away from the battle between Hedgecock and Teague until the top-5 running car of Martin slowed to a stop to bring out another yellow flag on lap 12.
On the lap 12 restart, Lowe jumped up to fourth. Further back in the running order, a furious fight was taking place between Zach Sise, Price and Logan Roberson just outside the top-5. The top-4 of McCarter, Hedgecock, Teague and Lowe strung out and began to click off laps.
One final restart on lap 23 allowed Roberson to break into the top-5. Two laps later, he took fourth away from Lowe. But at the front, McCarter eventually sailed under the checkered flag to claim the victory.
