Feature Re-cap: At the start of the 30-lap main event, it was Moran who went to the front with Davenport, Satterlee, Sheppard and Thornton trailing. Thornton swept by Sheppard for fourth on the second circuit. The LOLMDS points leader’s slide continued on lap 5 when Pearson and Strickler got by Sheppard for fifth and sixth respectively.
Davenport closed in on Moran to challenge for the lead. That challenge paid off on lap 8 when Davenport’s No. 49 to the top spot on the leaderboard.
At the halfway mark, Davenport led Moran, Satterlee, Thornton and Pearson in the fast paced feature. Soon after the halfway point, Davenport began to encounter slower traffic in the big speedway.
Davenport then extended his lead as his advantage grew to almost two seconds by the 20th lap. However, slower traffic began to play a role with Moran quickly closing on Davenport.
With Davenport trapped behind a slower machine, Moran regained the lead with just six laps remaining. Davenport tried to fight back but Moran held back the challenge to claim the victory.
“Obviously, J.D. has his stuff rolling,” Moran said in his victory lane interview with MavTV. “His car is really good. We’ve got a lot of work to do to be able to beat him tomorrow. Wylie(Moran’s brother) said before we went out there that lapped traffic would be important and it was. I was hoping I would be leading at that point but he was really good. He was just trying to make a move around those guys and messed up and I was able to slide underneath him.”
