Live Updates: Crate Late Model Showdown at Smoky Mountain(4-10-15)

InsideDirtRacing.com will be providing live updates for the Crate Late Model Showdown race from Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN on Friday evening, April 10, 2015. These updates are being provided by Richard Allen( @RichardAllenIDR on Twitter).

Classes in action: Unsanctioned Crate Late Models for $3,000-to-win, Limited Late Models for $1,200-to-win, Street Stocks for $500-to-win.

*Please Note: These updates will focus primarily on the Crate Late Model and Limited Late Model races. Any other updates will be dependent on a number of factors, including driver roster availability and timeliness of the event.

General Information: This race offers a unique format that will break the race into segments with bonuses and pit stops. 

The drivers meeting is slated for 6:00pm with hot laps to begin soon afterward.

Drivers meeting will be at 6:40 as additional time was needed to run the track in.

7:40- Hot laps are over and qualifying about to begin.

The top-6 qualifiers will go to a dash race. All others will be lined up for the feature based on time-trials.

Feature Notes:

9:28- Feature rolling out onto the track.

9:40- Green flag!

Big pileup on the start in turn one. Martin got sideways initially and Summers, Ownby, Coffey, Horton and Ogle were collected. Trent also has damage.

Looks like everyone will continue but all those mentioned above have damage.

Lap 17 caution for problems on the Tom Smith car. Welshan leads but Hickman and Hedgecock have moved to 2nd and 3rd and were closing on the leader before the caution. Trent, Wyatt and Trammell follow the top-3.

Trammell pulls off track on lap 18 restart.

Hedgecock moved around Welshan for the lead on lap 23.

Lap 25 Running Order- 1. Hedgecock, 2. Welshan, 3. Hickman, 4. Trent, 5. Wyatt, 6. Summers.

Hedgecock received a $225 bonus for winning that segment.

Inversion coming up.

Hedgecock drew the number 2 so only the top-2 will invert.

10:12- Cars are back on track.

Lap 39 caution for flat tire on Chase King. Hedgecock and Hickman got around Welshan on last restart and now run 1-2. Hedgecock had built a good lead but Hickman closed in traffic before the caution. Welshan, Trent, Wyatt, Summers and Martin follow the top-2.

Hedgecock and Hickman had separated themselves from the field prior to the mandatory caution on lap 50.

Lap 50 Running Order- 1. Hedgecock, 2. Hickman, 3. Welshan, 4. Trent, 5. Wyatt, 6. Martin, 7. Summers, 8. Horton

This break will last for 5 minutes. No invert this time.

10:34- Final adjustments have been made and engines have fired for the final dash to the finish.

Lap 56 caution for Summers in turn one wall. Looks like Elliott was also involved. Hedgecock leads Hickman, Welshan, Trent, Wyatt, Martin, Horton, King, Coffey, McMahan.

Caution on restart. King spins after contact from McMahan.

Lap 57 caution as McMahan climbs the wall on backstretch while racing with Horton.

Race ran all 25 laps caution free. Hedgecock dominated. The best battle on the track was for 3rd between Hall and Manley.
