David Gravel
David Gravel has been on a great roll over the past couple of weeks and that continued on Saturday night in the second of two consecutive evenings at the Cedar Lake Speedway for the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. The No. 2 car made a late push toward the front that resulted in a pass for the top spot with less than 10 laps remaining then drove on to score the victory in the Independence Day Spectacular.
The Big Game Motorsports driver from Watertown, Connecticut scored the traditional holiday weekend victory on the track located in New Richmond, Wisconsin in a race aired live by DirtVision.com.

Feature Re-cap: The 35-lap main event began with Bayston going to the early lead with Macedo, Kofoid, Gravel and Scelzi in his tire tracks. Macedo passed by Bayston for the lead on the second circuit with an outside power move. But by lap 7 the No. 41 machine had caught up with slower traffic which allowed his pursuers to tighten the race.
Bayston regained the top spot on lap 10 as they raced among slower cars.
A lap 12 caution for a spin by Thram slowed the pace briefly. On that restart, Kofoid made slight contact with Macedo as those two drivers raced for second. Kofoid was sent spinning to bring out another yellow flag.
On the second lap 12 restart, Bayston and Macedo continued to show the way as Gravel and Scelzi fought for third with Gravel eventually winning out.
After successive restarts on lap 20, Gravel was able to get around Macedo for second and then immediately set out after Bayston.
On lap 28, Gravel’s efforts paid off as he passed Bayston to grab the race lead as Macedo and the fast rising Allen battled for third.
But in the end it would be Gravel who claimed his first career win at Cedar Lake coming just one weekend after his $250,000 triumph at Huset’s Speedway.
