Feature Re-cap: When the 30-lap main event took the green flag it was Davenport who took the early lead with Hughes, Owens, McCreadie and Erb trailing. Hughes kept Davenport in his sights during the early laps as the leaders approached slower traffic. But a lap 8 caution for a flat tire on Wilson’s car would slow the pace onlap 8.

On the lap 8 restart, the top-3 of Davenport, Hughes and Owens held station while Erb took fourth from McCreadie then closed in to challenge Owens for third. At the same time, Davenport pulled away from Hughes shortly after the green flag.

At the halfway, Davenport’s lead exceeded two seconds as the leader found himself battling slower cars. However, Hughes and Owens would close that gap as Davenport was being held up in traffic. But in the end, Davenport proved to be too strong as he sailed under the checkered flag to score another victory in this historic season.

“We thought the race track might transition like that, but oh man, most of us in the pit area was right,” Davenport said from victory lane. “This race kind of surprised us last year, it never rubbered. Most people can go 100 laps with it like that when it’s not daytime. We’ll have to conserve a little bit, but like there, I just backed the pace way, way up.”
