The Castrol FloRacing Night in America Series will return to action on Thursday night at the Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, North Carolina with a tight points battle yet to be settled. After an October 10th cancellation at 411 Motor Speedway, this will be the tenth race of the 2023 season for the series that primarily contests $23,023-to-win midweek races to make up its schedule. This will be the second trek to the Ray Cook-promoted facility located in the mountains of western North Carolina where Dale McDowell scored a win last season in the dubbed the ‘Tar Heel 53’.
Following the action at Tri-County, there will be two races remaining on the tour’s slate, both to be held at Georgia’s Senoia Raceway on November 10 & 11. Those shows will pay $20,000-to-win and $54,054-to-win respectively.
Bobby Pierce currently leads the FloRacing standings by 15 points over Hudson O’Neal. Jonathan Davenport, Ricky Thornton Jr. and Tim McCreadie are 81, 85 and 87 points in arrears respectively. Pierce currently leads the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Late Model Series while O’Neal, Davenport and Thornton will be joined by Devin Moran as the four drivers who will decide the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championship next weekend in the Dirt track World Championship at Eldora Speedway.
The FloRacing Night in America Series gives 87 points to feature winners with second place finishers receiving 81. From there, a 3-point per position drop off occurs throughout the field. For example purposes, an O’Neal win coupled with a fifth-place effort by Pierce would bring the two drivers into a tie at the top of the standings.
So far in 2023, four drivers have one two FloRacing features each. Pierce collected hardware from the two most recent events held at Fairbury Speedway and Tyler County Speedway while O’Neal was victorious at Lincoln Speedway and Marshalltown Speedway. Thornton beat the field to the checkered flag at Brownstown Speedway and Florence Speedway and it was Dennis Erb Jr. who took the honors at Spoon River Speedway and Davenport Speedway. Mike Marlar’s lone tour win came in the season opener at Eldora Speedway.
Carson Ferguson won the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals event held at Tri-County in May while Jimmy Owens scored a win in July with the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals.
Of the 2023 FloRacing points contenders, Pierce(13th), Davenport(15th), and Thornton(8th) were the only ones to participate in the series race held at Tri-County last year. Neither O’Neal nor McCreadie took part in that show.
Hot laps are scheduled to commence at 6:30 on Thursday night. Those unable to attend can watch the action live on FloRacing.com.
