It would be difficult to say that a driver who has won as many feature races as has Cory Hedgecock is having a breakout season. But in a sense, that is indeed the case for the Loudon, Tenn. racer as he has piled up wins during the current campaign that have confirmed for fans around the country what many in the east Tennessee region already knew. And that is the 26-year-old has immense talent behind the wheel of a race car.
This past Saturday night Hedgecock scored his first Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series feature win when he drove to victory lane at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tenn after executing a late race pass on Kenny Collins to secure the victory. That $4,000 triumph simply added to the list of major regional and national touring series wins Hedgecock has added to his list of accomplishments in 2018.
On June 1st Hedgecock made national headlines when he beat the likes of Jimmy Owens, Mike Marlar and Chris Madden to the finish line to collect his first national touring series trophy in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at 411 Motor Speedway. Those in other regions of the country who had not seen Hedgecock’s talents first hand were suddenly exposed to those abilities.
The Rocket Chassis driver showed that 411 Motor Speedway is his personal domain when touring series drop in for a visit once again on July 17th when he captured the checkered flag in a Southern Nationals race that paid out $3,500 to the victor. Add to that an Iron-Man Championship Series victory at 411’s sister track, the Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, that also doled $3,500.
And if those wins are not enough, the former Durrence Layne Dirt Late Model Series champion has also scored two wins on that tour and currently leads the standings there. Also, numerous local wins in various classes at tracks around the east Tennessee region have been compiled throughout this driver’s career.
If you are a fan of Dirt Late Model racing and didn’t know much about Cory Hedgecock prior to the start of this season, you most likely have heard about him in 2018. So in that sense, this has been a breakout season for the young star.
