411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tenn. staged one of the biggest events in the track’s history on Saturday afternoon and one driver came away with two trophies and winner’s checks. Cory Hedgecock had quite a profitable day in the Frostbuster as the Loudon, Tenn. driver went flag-to-flag as he claimed the Southern Nationals Bonus Series race to earn $7151 then drove his Crate Late Model to a $1,500 victory to close out his afternoon.

Hedgecock opened the day by setting the overall fastest time in qualifying when he posted a lap of 14.321 seconds around the 3/8 mile clay oval. Joining the pole sitter in earning a locked in starting spot for the feature race was Mack McCarter, Skip Arp and Donald McIntosh.

Joe Leavell and Jimmy Owens were the victors in the two heat races used to set the remainder of the starting lineup for the main event.

At the start of the 50-lap feature, Hedgecock put his No. 23 Brucebilt machine out front immediately at the drop of the green flag with McCarter, McIntosh, Owens and Leavell following in his tire tracks. McIntosh, who had won four consecutive Super Late Model feature races at 411, began pressuring McCarter for the runner-up spot with Owens lurking within striking distance of the young trio ahead of him.

This first of four caution flags waved on lap 7 when defending Southern Nationals Bonus Series champion David Payne went for a spin in turn one. Just after the ensuing restart, Hedgecock shot back to the lead while McIntosh continued to apply pressure to McCarter with Owens just behind. At the same time, Leavell, Arp, Dustin Linville and Greg Johnson engaged in a heated battle for positions 5-8.

McIntosh’s efforts finally paid off as he moved around McCarter to grab second on lap 15. Owens then followed suit to claim 3rd one lap later.

After three successive caution flags between laps 18-20, the race settled into a rhythm with Hedgecock pulling out to a relatively comfortable lead as Owens pressured McIntosh about 15 car lengths back. The leader worked through traffic without issue late in the race and ultimately drove to the checkered flag ahead of the pack.
