Comeback Complete: Carson Macedo scores WoO win at Wilmot

Carson Macedo

Just weeks after surviving a very serious crash at the Knoxville Raceway, Carson Macedo drove to victory in the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series feature race at the Wilmot Raceway on Saturday evening. The No. 41 car took the lead just before the halfway mark in the Federated Auto Parts Larry Hillerud Memorial Badger 40 then kept his determined pursuers in arrears on the way to his fourth series win of 2023.

The Jason Johnson Racing driver from Lemoore, California scored the win on the track located in Wilmot, Wisconsin in a race aired live by DirtVision.com.

Feature Re-cap: On the initial attempt to start of the 40-lap feature a red flag was immediately displayed when Schuerenberg flipped in turn one. The driver was reported to be uninjured.

When the race did get underway, Schatz took the early lead ahead of Macedo, Sweet, Allen and Balog. Early on, it was Balog who would go on the charge moving up to third then closing in on Macedo to challenge for the runner-up position. However, Macedo was able to break away from that fight and begin a pursuit of his own as he went after leader Schatz.

On lap 16, Macedo’s efforts paid off as he passed by the 10-time series champion to claim the race lead. One lap later, Balog was also able to move around Schatz for the second position on the track.

Price went for a wils ride on lap 21 to bring out a red flag. With Macedo still leading, Balog stumbled on the restart allowing Sweet, Schatz and Haudenschild to move around. McFadden also tried to get by Balog but spun into the infield as those two race side-by-side.

By lap 28, Macedo looked to be firmly in command as Sweet and Haudenschild wrestled for second. However, Sweet would close in as the leaders worked through slower traffic but was never able to make a run at the leader.

Ultimately, it was Macedo who would sail under the checkered flag to claim the race win.
