Chris Madden blasts way to big WoO payday at Sharon

Chris Madden steered to a $25,000 payday at Sharon

Chris Madden had been steady but not necessarily spectacular coming into this weekend’s World of Outlaws CASE Construction Late Model Series triple-header at Sharon Speedway but he added in a little spectacular by taking two of the three feature races in the ‘Battle at the Border’ including Saturday night’s high paying finale. This was the series points leader’s third series victory of the season and the 35th of his career after he blasted past two other front runners in a daring three-wide move to take command of the race.

The Rocket Chassis driver from Gray Court, SC earned $25,000 for his efforts on the track located in Hartford, Ohio in a race aired live by DirtVision.com.

A total of 38 cars were signed in for competition

Feature Re-cap: The 60-lap feature got underway with English leading Pierce, Satterlee, Madden and Gustin. Gustin got by Madden for fourth on the second circuit then went after Satterlee for the runner-up position. However, Gustin found trouble when he clipped an inner uke tire and spun to bring out a caution.

After several green flag laps, English and Satterlee mixed it up for the lead with English running the bottom and Satterlee taking the top lane. For several laps the two front runners ran in near side-by-side formation with Pierce and Madden looking on as they contested third and fourth.

Between laps 19 and 21, English and Satterlee swapped the lead three times with English finally coming out on top.

A lap 23 caution for the slowing car of Colton Flinner briefly slowed the pace. Just after that restart, drivers Shirley, Marlar and Clanton fought hard over positions 6-8.

Following a lap 27 restart, those same drivers moved in to also bring Pierce and Hoffman into the fray.

Madden’s big move came on lap 32 when he made a three-wide pass by going through the middle of English and Satterlee. After that, the veteran driver managed his separation over his pursuers while also picking his way through slower traffic.

Near the end, English closed in on Madden to offer one final threat but the No. 44 maintained the advantage and drove under the checkered flag to score the win.

“I knew Tanner was going to be around the bottom,” Madden said of English’s late challenge in his post-race interview with DirtVision. “I knew the laps were running down and lapped traffic was pretty thick ahead and I was kind of biding my time there hoping to be able to sit there and let the laps run out. Hats off to my guys, they’ve done a great job this week. The redraw kills us but we’ve had a good race car.”
