For the third consecutive night, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series took to the track at Golden Isles Speedway to take part in the ‘Super Clean Super Bowl of Racing presented by eBay Motors’. After two nights of great racing action, the Brunswick, Georgia facility set out to bring its portion of Georgia-Florida SpeedWeeks to a close. When the dust had settled, it was Brandon Overton who claimed the victory. The Longhorn Chassis driver from Evans, Georgia collected $15,000 for his efforts.
A total of 46 cars were signed in for competition.
Kyle Larson set the pace in Group A qualifying with a lap of 14.856 seconds around the 4/10 mile clay oval besting Tim McCreadie, Jonathan Davenport, Ryan Gustin and Dan Stone.
It was Devin Moran would set quick time in Group B time-trials after touring the track in 15.090 seconds outperforming Brandon Sheppard, Hudson O’Neal, Shane Clanton and Ashton Winger.
Kyle Larson earned the pole position for the feature by winning the first heat race of the night over Ryan Gustin and Kyle Bronson just before Tim McCreadie captured the second preliminary ahead of Garrett Smith and Tyler Bruening.
Brandon Overton was the victor in the third heat bettering Jonathan Davenport and Mark Whitener.
Devin Moran would start the main event from the outside of the front row by virtue of his win in the fourth heat beating out Shane Clanton and Ricky Thornton Jr. while Ashton Winger took the fifth heat after outrunning Brandon Sheppard and Brian Shirley.
Earl Pearson Jr. claimed the sixth and final heat topping Tyler Erb and Jimmy Owens in the process.
Spencer Hughes and Chris Madden won the two B-main races used to set the remainder of the starting lineup.
At the start of the 50-lap feature it was Larson who jetted to the early lead with Moran, McCreadie, Overton and Winger trailing. Overton rose early as he passed by McCreadie to take third on the second lap of the race. Further back, Pearson rumbled past Winger to claim fifth opening the door for Clanton to also get around Winger for sixth.
With the race running its first 43 laps without a yellow flag, the leaders found themselves battle with slower traffic much of the way. On lap 13, the top-3 of Larson, Moran and Overton ran in tight formation as they worked to lap and get around those at the tail of the field.
Overton raced around Moran on lap 19 to grab second and then set off in pursuit of the reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion.
On lap 27, that pursuit paid off as Overton worked around Larson for the lead. Five laps later, Moran would wrest the runner-up position away from Larson, and that then opened the door for McCreadie to also pass by Larson. Tyler Erb entered the top-5 on lap 35 when he passed Pearson for the spot.
Moran did not concede the win to Overton as he closed back in and made a move to the outside in an attempt to take the top spot on the leader board in the closing laps. However, a caution on lap 43 temporarily put an end to that fight.
Once the green flag was again displayed, Overton was able to maintain the top spot and drive on to the checkered flag to earn his second victory of the weekend after having also won on Friday evening.
