Unfortunately, weather has impacted dirt racing events that were scheduled for this weekend in a negative way as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series race set for Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tenn. for Thursday night had to be cancelled due to a frigid forecast. Further, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series Illini 100, originally planned as a two-race event on Friday and Saturday nights at the Farmer City Raceway in Illinois, was pushed into April for the same reason.
But the loss by some may very well have resulted in a gain for others. The Lucas Oil races slated for Friday night at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA and Saturday evening at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL are still on and have suddenly become a destination point for many of Dirt Late Model racing’s biggest stars. Several top WoO Late Models racers have added those two races to their schedules to bring about what will almost be crown jewel type fields for the $12,000-to-win shows.
Obviously, LOLMDS regulars such as Josh Richards, Scott Bloomquist, Jonathan Davenport, Jimmy Owens, Tim McCreadie, Earl Pearson, Jr., Bobby Pierce, Don O’Neal, Darrell Lanigan, Dennis Erb, Jr., Hudson O’Neal, Kyle Bronson and Gregg Satterlee are expected to be on hand for the weekend twin bill. But now with the postponement at Farmer City, numerous top runners from the WoO Late Models lineup are expected to also venture into Georgia and Alabama.
Among those who have updated their website schedules to include both the Boyd’s and EAMS races are Brandon Sheppard, Chris Madden, Shane Clanton, Brandon Overton and Billy Moyer, Jr. Also, Dale McDowell, who currently sits second in the WoO Late Models standings but does not plan to run the full series schedule, has declared his intentions of being on hand for both races.

WoO Late Models Rookie of the Year contender Tyler Millwood has included the Boyd’s Speedway event on his schedule but not the EAMS race. And no doubt, there will be a number of top regional racers to test their skills against the top national touring series stars in one or both contests as well.
Due to rain that fell during Georgia-Florida SpeedWeeks and cancelled WoO Late Models races at Screven Motor Speedway, many of these drivers were all together during that three week stretch of races. And now, it looks as if many of them will be together again for what looks to be an action packed weekend.
