The 2015 race season is almost over. While tracks and drivers are already preparing for 2016, let’s take a look back at some items of interest over the last few weeks.
- Jimmy Owens’ change in chassis is not surprising and probably needed. While I contend Owens could drive a school bus to several wins, this just wasn’t a good fit. He will also have more crew help than he had this season.
- I recently saw where a track is planning on running 10 classes next week. Considering how much cooler it is this time of the year combined with length of a program like that, I must say that is a crazy idea.
- Weather was certainly not kind to many late-season events. It mirrored the beginning of the season that saw a number of cancelled events.
- Though not a favorite of mine, you cannot beat a track that offers soup beans and cornbread at the concession stand on a cool night.
- Kelley Carlton wrote a great article on Duayne Hommel for Dirt Late Model magazine. I suggest everyone read it.
- I am glad to see the open wheel modifieds make a bit of a comeback in the area. Let’s hope the class will grow and other tracks won’t add the class until it does grow. We don’t need more copycat classes where each track only has 6-8 cars per week.
