Jonathan Davenport led all the way on night 1 at Wheatland
Jonathan Davenport led all the way in a feature race that ran caution-free on Thursday night in the Cowboy Classic at Lucas Oil Speedway. It was the first in a set of three races for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with the $50,000-to-win Show-me 100 on Saturday night.
The Longhorn Chassis driver from Blairsville, Georgia earned $6,000 for the win on the track located in Wheatland, Missouri in an event aired live by FloRacing.com.

Feature Re-cap: The 45-lap feature took the green flag with Davenport leading Bruening, McCowen, Chris Simpson and Weiss. McCreadie began to move forward on lap 3 when he pulled into sixth. The two-time series champion then grabbed fifth from Weiss on lap 4.
Bruening was keeping pace with Davenport in the early going as McCreadie offered a challenge to Simpson for fourth. With the race running caution free, traffic began to be a factor on lap 10 but the No. 49 car was able to pull out to a lead of 1.6 seconds.
Another driver who began to move up the leaderboard just before the halfway mark was Thornton as he joined the battle with McCreadie and Simpson. On lap 21, he used a three-wide pass to get around both of those cars to take fourth.
Thornton continued to move up, when on lap 23, he passed McCowan for third. But by that time, Dvenport had extended his advantage to more then three seconds over Bruening. Thornton got by Bruening for second on lap 25 at the same time as McCreadie took fourth from McCowen.
Davenport found himself in heavy traffic with 10 laps to go which allowed Thornton to close quickly. As the laps clicked away, Thornton made repeated attempts to get around Davenport but the No. 49 car was able to fight off the challenge and ultimately collect his second series win of 2023.
