Chris Madden dominates night 1 of WoO Late Models weekend at Sharon

Chris Madden took the win at Sharon

Chris Madden claimed his first World of Outlaws CASE Construction Late Model Series win of 2023 with a dominating performance on Thursday night at Sharon Speedway. ‘Smokey’ earned the win on the first of a three-race weekend at this same track in the ‘Battle at the Border’ which will culminate with a $25,000-to-win feature on Saturday.

The Rocket Chassis driver from Gray Court, South Carolina earned $6,000 from the Hartford, Ohio track in a race shown live by DirtVision.com.

A total of 40 cars were signed in for competition

Feature Re-cap: The 25-lap feature got underway with Madden jumping to the early lead ahead of Marlar, Troutman, Pierce and Satterlee. Pierce got by Troutman for third. Further back, Hoffman rose to sixth. Hoffman took fifth from Satterlee on lap 4 as Madden built his lead up to 2.5 seconds over Marlar and Pierce.

Satterlee regained fifth from Hoffman on lap 10 while Marlar, Pierce and Troutman fought over positions 2-4. Disaster struck on lap 13. when Pierce and Troutman tangled sending Troutman into the outside wall. At the same time in a separate incident two lapped cars made contact causing a spin that collected fifth-running Satterlee. Both Troutman and Satterlee were eliminated from the race.

On the restart, Sheppard moved all the way from sixth to third with Madden continuing to lead Pierce and Marlar fell back to fourth. Shirley moved into fifth by passing Hoffman as the laps clicked away. Marlar got around Sheppard for third with two laps remaining.

In the end, it proved to be Madden’s night as he drove away to win by 2.5 seconds to claim his 34th career WoO Late Models victory.
