In much the same way he did with Millwood Motorsports and driver Tyler Millwood during the 2020 Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals, Chris Madden has not only secured a ride for himself but will also serve in the role of mentor for a young racer. The Gray Court, SC star will take the reins of a Longhorn Chassis owned by former NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series driver Joey Coulter beginning with this weekend’s Comp Cams Topless 100 at Batesville(AR) Motor Speedway.
Madden is the defending champion of the Topless 100.
The 45-year-old veteran racer will share driving duties out of the Rum Runner stables for the remainder of 2020 with young Pearson Lee Williams, who took over as the driver of that team’s No. 2 car when the organization parted ways with Brandon Overton late in the 2019 season. The Georgia native scored a win for his team in the Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar Winter Series feature at Modoc(SC) Raceway back in February of 2020.
Ironically, it was in that same Modoc event that Madden secured the Xtreme Series championship in the inaugural season for that tour as a winter series.
Williams will continue to drive the No. 2 machine while Madden’s car will carry his familiar No. 44
According to a press release put out by Rum Runner, Madden will primarily compete in bigger national shows such as the Topless 100 and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event at Pennsylvania’s Port Royal Speedway in late August. Williams will focus mostly on regional races with a few bigger shows mixed in until the team can fully transition into a two-car operation.

Veteran crew chief Harold Holly will oversee the operation.
“It’s a great opportunity for all of us to complete the circle with the help of Rum Runner, Harold, my guys, and sponsors that are coming a long to help,” Madden declared in the release. “I think it’s a great chance for all of us as a group to work together and be a dominating, top class team. Batesville is probably one of my favorite places. I have been there multiple times, and I have almost always run extremely well there. Having won this race last year I think it’s a great place for us to kick off this new team and hopefully pick up another Topless win.”
Williams looks forward to being paired with his accomplished teammate.
“He brings a lot to the table for sure,” the young pilot said. “A driver of his caliber and all the experience he has is huge. I think it is really going to help me as a driver to improve on things like reading the tracks as they change and getting comfortable with what I want out of my car.”
