As part of the “Tennessee’s Action Track 50” event featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series race, 411 Motor Speedway also staged racing in the Crate Late Model division. Jason Welshan beat the pack to the checkered flag to seemingly score the win but will now have to wait for the results to be finalized after a protest was lodged by the second place finisher.
Jesse Lowe was fastest in qualifying after he turned a lap of 14.218 seconds around the 3/8 mile clay oval to beat out Jason Welshan, Brandon Williams, Trevor Sise, Drew Kennedy, Michael Courtney, Rusty Ballenger, Clay Coghlan, Jason Cardwell and Heath Alvey.
At the start of the 20-lap feature Welshan bolted to the front of the field with Lowe, Sise, Williams and Courtney trailing. Immediately, Williams and Sise began to contest the third position while Alvey and Ballenger fought over sixth on lap 3.
Lowe got around Welshan in what looked like a move to take the race lead but a caution flag waved before the lap could be completed which negated the move by the No. 5J car.
Alvey potential top-10 run came to a disappointing end when he slowed with a flat tire to bring out the second and final caution of the night on lap 9.
Sise moved around Lowe to wrest the second position on the lap 9 restart. All the while, Welshan continued to lead the race.
During the race’s second half the top runners spaced out and chased Welshan around the speedway until the checkered flag waved.
Following the race a protest was lodged and the results of that will not be known until next week. Thus, the results will remain unofficial until then.
