A great deal of speculation and discussion regarding the future of I-40 Raceway appears to be reaching a point of reality. On Tuesday, InsideDirtRacing.com’s Michael Moats reported that the track would host a practice session on Friday night, May 9th. And now, track owner Doug Sopha is offering more details regarding some frequently asked questions about the track that has been constructed near the site of the now defunct but much revered Atomic Motor Speedway, just west of Knoxville.

Sopha took to the MRMracing.net message board on Thursday morning to point out that the upcoming practice would be open to all divisions that might potentially wish to race on the quarter-mile oval. He also stated that he is “still deciding what classes to race this year”, indicating that the track will indeed be opening within the 2014 racing season and leaving open the possibility that Late Models may be raced on the new track.
Initial reports had said the track would race on Sunday afternoons and would be home to so called ‘support classes’ such as Classics and Mini Stocks.
Sopha’s MRM message board post also revealed that the track would be racing on Friday nights once it officially opens. “This will be your Friday night track,” he declared.
