Weekly Racing Heroes will be a regular feature on InsideDirtRacing.com throughout the 2019 racing season. These pieces will focus on drivers in east Tennessee who race on a weekly basis at the tracks of this region. Here, drivers will answer three questions that will provide fans with a look into the lives of their favorite weekly competitors.
Driver: Nick Perry
Hometown: Lenoir City, TN
Class: Sportsman Late Model
Nick Perry is a guy who just loves racing and being at a race track. The 35-year-old racer has been around the sport for years and plans to remain in the sport for the foreseeable future.
What got you started in racing?
“I guess my dad when I was little. We used to come up here to 411 and I worked at Atomic the last two years it was open. I just couldn’t get enough. I started running around with some buddies of mine and the next thing I know, I’ve got a Late Model. That’s kind of how it started out.”
What is the goal you want to achieve in racing?
“I want to be competitive anywhere, not just at one track. I mainly stay at I-75 but I just want to feel like I can be competitive wherever I unload, no matter where it’s at. My ultimate goal would be to move up to Crate Late Models full-time, but right now, I’ll just stick with Sportsman and get all we can out of the car.”
What keeps you coming back week after week?
“Insanity maybe. No, I think the friendships. Racing has a lot of ups and downs in it but some of the best friends in my life have come from racing.”
