The Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee has released an eleven race schedule for 2014 that will feature big Super Late Model events sanctioned by a number of touring series’ as well as several Steel Head Late Model features.
The Joe and Phyllis Loven owned facility will again contest two of its bigger shows in conjunction with the NASCAR weekends at the Bristol Motor Speedway, located just up I-81 from the popular dirt track. The season opening ‘Spring Thaw’ will feature a pair Ray Cook promoted Spring Nationals races on March 14 & 15. The Friday night show will pay $4,000-to-win while the Saturday night main event will offer $10,000 to the winner.
In August, Volunteer Speedway will host what has grown into its most recognizable event as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series comes calling for the ‘Scorcher’ $10,000-to-win Super Late Model showdown that will feature a number of local competitors taking on the stars of that national touring series.
Returning to the track in 2014 will be the Carolina Clash series for two big shows on May 18 and July 12, each paying $4,000-to-win.
The Southern All Stars will sanction the Scott Sexton Memorial 52 on June 14 while Ray Cook’s Southern Nationals will again visit the high banked clay oval on July 22.
A $4,000-to-win Steel Head Limited Late Model race on August 8 will highlight the action for that division in the coming season.
Along with these late model events, Crate Late Models and Hobby classes will also compete at ‘The Gap’ in 2014.
