The time has come for regional racers to make a decision

For some regional Super Late Model racers in the southeast, the time has come to decide whether or not they plan to be a regular on a regional series, and if so, which tour they will take on. To this point, there has been very little crossover in terms of scheduling for the different series but that is about to end this weekend as four Southern-based circuits plan to be in action over the next few days.

Regional racers sometimes go into a season undecided as to which series they will race with or whether or not they will even race on a series at all. Often, decisions aren’t made until a few races have been run and a baseline has been established on one tour or another. There have been multiple occasions in which a team has been set to race with a particular series only to change midstream after getting off to a good start with another.

For some, however, the time to decide if or which series will be followed has come. With four different regional tours in action this Friday and Saturday, overlapping is unavoidable. Since being in two places at once isn’t possible, one will have to be chosen over the others.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals, Southern All-Star Dirt Racing Series, Ultimate Super Late Model Series and Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series all have races planned.

Michael Page currently leads the Spring Nationals standings

The Spring Nationals will be in action on Friday night at Ray Cook’s Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, North Carolina in a $4,053-to-win affair that will mark the third race of the season for the series. Brandon Overton and Shane Clanton won the first two events of 2022 under this sanction.

The plan is for this mini-series, which will conclude in May, to contest 12 races that will see the tour make its way into five states(Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and Alabama). The eventual champion will collect $10,053 for his efforts over this relatively short period of time. Michael Page currently leads the standings ahead of Mark Whitener, Carson Ferguson, Dalton Cook and Jensen Ford.

Chris Madden won the SAS feature at Cherokee Speedway

The Southern All Stars have plans to visit the Sunshine State for a double-header weekend at Southern Raceway in Milton, Florida. Friday night’s event will pay out $3,000 to the victor while Saturday night’s feature will offer a $5,000-to-win payout. These will be the third and fourth races of 2022 for this series.

Ross Bailes and Chris Madden were victorious in the two previous events held to this point. The Southern All Stars have slated 22 races for this season with the series traversing across nine states around the South. The champion will receive a reward of $6,000.

Brandon Overton won the Ultimate opener at Smoky Mountain

The Ultimate Super Late Model Series will swing back into action on Saturday night in the Shamrock event to be held at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia. This $5,000-to-win show will be the second of the year for this tour. Brandon Overton won the first race of the season in a co-sanctioned event with the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series at Smoky Mountain Speedway.

The Ultimate tour will hold 24 races in 2022 across five states with the champion receiving a hefty $25,000 check in the end.

Finally, Carolina Clash competitors will head to South Carolina to contest a $5,000-to-win show at Lancaster Speedway on Saturday evening. This will be the first of 20 races scheduled for the year with all but one event(Georgia) taking place in the Carolinas. The eventual champion will take home a reward of $10,000.

After this weekend, the picture should be more clear regarding who will be running for which championship.
