The 411 Motor Speedway hosted a full slate of racing action on Saturday night that included the Sportsman, Street Stock and Mini Stock classes. After turning back intense challenges, Terry Poore, Brad Davis and John Byers came away with feature wins in their respective divisions.
In the Sportsman class, David Kerr began the night by setting fast time in qualifying with a lap of 14.944 seconds around the 3/8 mile clay oval. He was followed by Poore, Clyde Stanton, Wayne Rader and Kip Sawyer.
There were no heat races as the starting lineup for the 13 car field was determined entirely by time-trials.
At the start of the 20-lap feature, Poore shot from his outside front row starting spot to take the early lead with Kerr and Stanton close behind. On lap 3, Stanton moved around Kerr to take the runner-up spot.
Stanton quickly closed to the rear of Poore’s car and would challenge him for the race lead for the remainder of the distance. But at every turn, Poore rose to the challenge and fought back his rival’s advances.
Meanwhile, Kerr and Rader were waging their own fight for the 3rd position that would also last for the length of the event with Justin Beeler and Brandon Gardner also joining the fray in the closing laps.
At the finish, it was Terry Poore scoring the win ahead of Clyde Stanton, David Kerr, Wayne Rader, Justin Beeler and Brandon Gardner.
Dale Watson and Chris Rickett earned front row starting positions in the Street Stock feature by winning their respective heat races earlier in the night. But it would be 5th starting Brad Davis who would shine in the main event.
Watson went to the early lead of the 20-lap feature but he was immediately challenged by the hard charging Davis and Rickett. At the halfway mark of the race, Davis finally got around Watson to take the race lead only to see that pass wiped away when a caution flag waved before the lap could be completed.
On lap 13, Davis was able to make the move that stuck when he again got by Watson. This time, however, Rickett followed right in his tire tracks and began his own assault on the race lead. Over the final seven laps Davis would hold back the charges of Rickett and drive on to the checkered flag.
At the finish, it was Brad Davis, Chris Rickett, Dale Watson, Shannon Emery and Jeff McLemore.
Michael Courtney and John Byers each won heat races in the Mini Stocks. However, Courtney had to start from the 7th position due to the number of feature wins he has scored in this division during the 2014 season.
With the perennial front runner mired in mid-pack, Byers went to the early lead and set about the task of building a bit advantage. In short order, Courtney was able to grab the 2nd spot. However, his momentum would carry him no further as he was never really able to carve into Byers’ lead in the caution free race.
At the finish, it was John Byers, Michael Courtney, Mike Townsend and Tommy Metler.
