We at InsideDirtRacing.com recognize the contributions made to the sport of dirt racing by those who race in the support classes each week at our local tracks. Their work, dedication and sacrifice are just as great as those who compete in the Late Model divisions. As a result, we hope to shine a spotlight on one of those unsung heroes each week of this season by having them answer eight questions as well as provide other information.
This week’s driver is Beau Bice
Beau Bice has been around racing in one way or another for virtually all his life, but the Soddy Daisy, Tennessee driver has not really been behind the wheel that long. However, the 41-year-old has amassed plenty of success in a relatively short period of time as a driver.
“We’ve been in A-Hobby for a while now and have been doing pretty good,” Bice declared. “We won a championship in my first full year.”
And very soon, the current Boyd’s Speedway regular hopes to take another step up the racing ladder. “My intentions for next year are to run a Nesmith Crate Late Model, or that’s our goal anyway.”
1. How long have you been in racing?
“I’ve been in racing for almost 35 years with my dad. I’ve been racing myself for three full years in the bigger cars. I raced in go-karts before that.”
2. Why the A-Hobby class?
“It’s the money. This class is a whole lot cheaper than trying to build a Late Model or a Crate. You do run for lesser money, but I’ve got a lot of good seat time and it helped out starting in a lower division.”
3. The best thing about being a race car driver is____.
“There’s a lot. I know one thing, this is the best fix anybody could have.”
4. Your best moment in racing came when ____.
“My best moment was probably winning the championship at Boyd’s last year in the A-Hobby class.”
5. My biggest dream in racing would be _____.
“I’m about too old for many dreams, but I’d like to maybe win a NeSmith championship.”
6. What other racer do you admire?
“Randy Weaver”
7. What’s your favorite thing to do away from the track?
“I love to fish with my son(Storm Bice) and work on race cars. He’s in go-karts and that’s just what we do.”
8. If I wasn’t racing I would be ____.
“I love fishing. I’d probably be a professional fisherman.”
