Stellar field heading for Smoky Mountain this Saturday

With many racers now at least three weeks removed from their last race and virtually no other competition in terms of other events being contested this Saturday, the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series show at Smoky Mountain Speedway looks to have a stellar field on hand. Of course, the full contingent of tour regulars will be on hand for the points paying race along with a number of top regional stars.

At the same time, however, numerous teams from the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, which will have no competing race this weekend, have indicated their intentions to make the trip to the Maryville, TN facility for a feature that will pay $12,000 to the victor.

WoO Late Model regulars such as defending series champion Brandon Sheppard, Scott Bloomquist, Darrell Lanigan, Ricky Weiss, Dennis Erb, Jr., and overall points leader and top rookie Kyle Strickler will be joined by other rookie contenders Ross Bailes, Ryan Gustin, and Tony Jackson, Jr. in a field that will almost certainly have a high car count.

Aside from those drivers, numerous nationally known heavy hitters have indicated their intention of racing on the 4/10 mile clay oval. Current LOLMDS points leader Brandon Overton as well as defending series champion Jimmy Owens, Jonathan Davenport, Tim McCreadie, Hudson O’Neal, Kyle Bronson, Mike Marlar, and Tanner English have this race on their posted schedules or have spoken their intent to race.

And more, numerous regional standouts will pay a visit to the historic track. Chris Ferguson, Bobby Pierce, Donald McIntosh, Cory Hedgecock, Dale McDowell, and Chris Madden are expected.

After the time off following SpeedWeeks in Florida, it’s time to get back into action. And from the looks of things, many of Dirt Late Model racing’s biggest stars will be doing exactly that this weekend at Smoky Mountain Speedway.
