A weekend trip to the mountains can often be a quiet and relaxing time in which the hustle and bustle of the world are forgotten. This weekend, the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series will visit two tracks with Mountain in their names but that trip will have nothing in common with that serene scenario mentioned in the opening sentence as the roar of racing engines running at full speed will instead be the order of the day.
The Southern All Stars will travel to Mountain Motorsports Park on Friday night for the Walter “Peg” Combs Memorial. The event staged on the 3/8 mile clay oval located in Isom, KY will pay out $4,000 to the eventual winner. Open Wheel Modifieds and Pro Late Models are among the other classes expected to compete on the track located in the mountains of eastern Kentucky.
On Saturday night the Southern All Stars will again be mountain bound as the tour makes its way to Smoky Mountain Speedway for an event dubbed ‘Rockin’ With the Stars’. The Maryville, TN facility will hand out $5,000 to the winner of the feature race.
Smoky Mountain will also host the Steel Block Bandits in a $5,000-to-win event for Limited Late Models.
The Southern All Stars have already contested five events in 2021 with Brandon Overton, G.R. Smith, Rusty Schlenk, Joseph Joiner, and Pearson Lee Williams coming away with wins in those features.
Payton Freeman currently leads the Southern All Stars standings ahead of 2020 series champion Billy Franklin and Mark Dodson.
