With the Show-me 100 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned race for Dirt Late Model cars slated for this coming weekend a severe line of storms passed through the Wheatland, Missouri area. The storm struck late Monday night into the early morning hours of Tuesday causing significant damage around the Lucas Oil Speedway property.
A message was posted on the Lucas Oil Speedway Facebook page providing information about the storms:
“A significant storm including a possible tornado has struck Wheatland, MO and Lucas Oil Speedway this evening. We are surveying the area tonight without any power and will know more in the morning. Please try to stay safe as the remainder of the storms pass through tonight. Please keep all involved in your thoughts and prayers as we evaluate the situation. We will provide updates on Tuesday morning as we are able to evaluate and assess the damage. Thank you for your patience in this difficult time.”
Double Down Motorsports team owner Roger Sellers posted a photo and a brief synopsis of the situation:
“Beautiful day here at Wheatland that is until about 10:00pm then all Hell broke loose. I’m pretty sure we road out a tornado sitting in the hauler.”
Sellers went on to add:
“Lots of damage all around us. The truck stadium had covered bleachers, about 5,000 seats. It’s wadded up in a big ball about 500 feet from where we’re parked. We can see it when the lightning flashes.”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who were in the path of this terrible storm.
Note: Series and track officials have announced that the Show-me 100 has been postponed. A makeup date is being sought. An announcement with further details is expected to be made on May 28, 2019.
