Scott Bloomquist scores Friday night WoO Late Models win at Volusia

Bloomquist set fast time, won his heat and won the feature

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series again rolled through the gates of Volusia Raceway Park near Daytona Beach, Fla. on Friday night to contest a $10,000-to-win affair. This would be the third points paying event of the 2018 season for this series and at the end of the night it was __ who rolled into victory lane as the big winner.

For the second night in a row, Scott Bloomquist led in qualifying for Group A and overall with a time of 15.821 seconds which beat out Chris Madden, Billy Moyer, Jr., Dennis Erb, Jr. and Rick Eckert.

Mike Norris was best in Group B time-trials with a lap of 16.088 seconds to top Mike Marlar, Shane Clanton, Mike Maresca and David Breazeale.

Bloomquist won the first heat race of the night over Eckert, Moyer and Dale McDowell while Erb took the second preliminary ahead of Madden, Mason Zeigler and Devin Moran.

Breazeale earned the victory in the third heat ahead of Clanton, Tim McCreadie and Darrell Lanigan just

Marlar beat the field to the finish line in the final heat over Brian Shirley, Brandon Sheppard and Jonathan Davenport.

Kyle Bronson won the first Last Chance Showdown ahead of Tomothy Culp and Tyler Bruening while Josh Richards took the second LCS with Mike Norris and Nick Hoffman also transferring to the feature.

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series redraw placed Bloomquist on the pole for the main event with Marlar, Erb, Breazeale, Shirley, Madden, Eckert and Clanton.

At the start of the 50-lap feature, it was Marlar who bolted to the early lead with Breazeale, Erb, Bloomquist and Madden following. Quickly, however, Erb moved forward and issued a challenge to Marlar for the lead as Bloomquist and Madden moved by Breazeale to take third and fourth respectively.

Madden and Bloomquist briefly fought over third before the No. 0 car secured the position while Marlar pulled away from the field by the sixth circuit. But just two laps later it was Bloomquist who began to rumble as he took the runner-up spot away from Erb and began to track down the race leader.

By lap 13. Bloomquist caught and passed Marlar on the outside to move to the top of the scoreboard. Erb also moved by Marlar just two laps later.

Bloomquist separated himself from the pack on lap 18 as Madden closed in on and passed Marlar for third. The No. 44 then set off after Erb in pursuit of second place. At the same time, Davenport, Clanton and Eckert mixed it up for positions 6-8 just before the halfway point.

The first caution of the night came out when Chase Junghans slowed on the track on lap 27. Zeigler jumped up to the third spot on the restart with Sheppard working his way into the top-5 by getting around Marlar.

The second and final yellow flag waved when Devin Moran stopped on track. Sheppard came up to third and quickly moved by Madden to grab second. However, Madden would fight back and retake that position on lap 39 while Zeigler took third from Sheppard.

Thursday night winner McDowell moved forward on lap 42 as he took fifth then went to fourth around Sheppard three circuits later. With just three laps remaining Madden pulled right to the rear spoiler of Bloomquist and looked to challenge for the win. The No. 44 pulled up on the outside and appeared to have momentum but found himself behind the lapped car of Bronson with just over one lap to go. Bloomquist moved through the traffic efficiently and sailed under the checkered flag to make it two consecutive wins for Sweet-Bloomquist Race Cars after McDowell’s triumph from last night.
