Scott Bloomquist, arguably one of the greatest dirt late model drivers, has died in a plane crash on Friday morning. According to reports from the Rogersville Review, Bloomquist was flying a vintage plane he owned and it crashed into a nearby barn after 7 a.m. on Friday morning. No one else was on the plane.
The 60-year-old was originally from California and moved to Tennessee when was a teenager. He took the southern racing scene by storm and ruffled many feathers with his long hair and brash talk. Bloomquist quickly became a household name in dirt late model racing.
Bloomquist was a 2002 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame inductee and has over 500 wins to his credit along with series championships in the Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series, World of Outlaws Late Model Series, and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
In recent years, Bloomquist suffered from various injuries that kept him out of the car as much as he was in the car. His last race was the USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway in Wisconsin on August 3rd.
