Ryan Gustin reaps World of Outlaws Late Model win at Marion Center

Ryan Gustin led the field to the checkered flag

In his 100th career World of Outlaws CASE Construction Late Model Series start ‘The Reaper’ Ryan Gustin sailed to a victory at the Marion Center Speedway. Friday night’s event was the first of a two-race weekend for the tour.

The Rocket Chassis driver from Marshalltown, Iowa earned $10,000 from the track located in Marion Center, Pennsylvania in a race shown live by DirtVision.com.

A total of 51 cars were signed in for competition

Feature Re-cap: At the start of the 40-lap feature it was Montgomery who shot to the lead with Norris, Gundaker, Gustin and Drown trailing. Gustin passed Gundaker for third on the second lap. Further back, Sheppard rose to sixth after falling back early. 

Gustin took the runner-up position from Norris on lap 4 just before a caution flag waved on lap 5. On the restart, Clanton bolted to fourth. Meanwhile, at the front of the field, Gustin wrested the lead from Montgomery on lap 8.

Clanton continued to rise on lap 11 when he moved to second passing Montgomery. Ahead of the pack, Gustin was pulling away building a lead of 2.5 seconds. Hoffman grabbed fourth on lap 15 as he passed Norris. Sheppard then entered the top-5 on lap 18 but Norris would fight back.

Lap 21 saw Sheppard burst into fourth then to third two laps later. Gustin had built a lead of four seconds by lap 26 until a yellow flag for Frank and Drown negated his advantage.

At the time of caution, Gustin led Clanton, Sheppard, Hoffman and Gundaker. On the restart, Sheppard drove to second while Gundaker took fourth. Gustin quickly built his lead back up to 1.5 seconds but a lap 32 caution for a mishap involving Bronson and Erb car took that advantage away.

After just one lap of green flag action, a multi-car incident that saw Montgomery end up on his roof. All involved were reported to be okay.

On the lap 33 restart, Clanton and Sheppard battled for second but Gustin would again pull away from the pack and drive on to the victory.
