Quick Six: Racapping the first half of the season

quick6

Believe it or not, 2015 is halfway over and so is the 2015 racing season. This edition of the Quick Six blog looks back at some of the happenings of the first half of the season and how they relate to the second half of the season

1. The two national dirt late model tours have drawn huge crowds this season. With only one more of national touring race in the area this season, can regional races carry the load for the second half of the season?

2. Weekly attendance continues to see peaks and valleys. Expect at least one track consider going to special events only in 2016.

3. Streaks seem to be the order of the 2015 season during the first half of the schedule. As more and more drivers step away from the sport, streaks are more likely. Who will be the next driver to rip off another lengthy streak?

4. With only 3 wins this season and only 1 in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, people are beginning to wonder what is wrong with Jimmy Owens. Some wonder if Owens has had trouble getting his new chassis dialed in or the loss of crew chief Chris Fox has finally caught up.

5. Phillip Thompson has accumulated a big win total at the halfway point of the season in the classic car division. It is a shame that drivers, that cannot beat him, resort to purposely crashing him over and over in a race. It was one of the more pathetic displays this season.

6. If you are a fan of older drivers and photos, check out two Facebook pages. One is the Legends of East Tennessee Stock Car Racing. The other is Atomic Speedway Memories.
