Quick Six: Unbelievable weekend

quick6

There were some happenings this past weekend that could be described as “unbelievable.”

1. Randy Weaver just seems to be on another level than anyone else in the area, if not the country. It will be interesting to see who and when anybody has anything for him.

2. Weather forecasters really impacted race attendance this past weekend. Calls for 100% chance of rain and storms on Saturday did not materialize until midnight, when racing was over. If you own a smartphone, get a good weather app and decide for yourself if it is worth going to the races.

3. After swtiching to Saturday night this past weekend, Cleveland Speedway has suffered 4 straight rain outs.

4. Weekend races at Smoky Mountain Speedway proved a track surface doesn’t have to bet wet and tacky to have good racing.

5. With the recent safety improvements in racing and some wicked accidents in recent years, it’s hard to believe any racer would use safety equipment that is many years old just to save a few bucks.

6. Be on the lookout for a new book on area dirt track racing in the coming months.
