We are in the heart of big money races on the dirt late model schedule. The newest edition of the Quick Six looks at some big events.
- While it may seem strange to have a Bristol race weekend without a visit to Volunteer Speedway, the decision to cancel the Scorcher was the right call. There were too many factors working against it for it to be a success.
- Unless you consider Florence, Kentucky to be in the Southeast, the Southeast is missing out by not having a mega-event such as the North/South 100.
- Race series should start penalizing drivers that come from the pit area and then stop on the racetrack in order to bring out a caution just to catch up to the field. This happened twice in the North/South 100. One almost led to a huge pileup.
- Regardless if the Dirt Million reaches the mark of a million dollar total purse or not, the race is one of the best promotional ideas to come to the sport in a long time.
- The term “crown jewel” is thrown around too much in dirt late model racing. Just because a race has a big purse does not make it a crown jewel event. But it would be nice if people in the sport could agree on some criteria on what is a crown jewel and stick with that.
- Having three straight nights of racing seems to be the trend for this big money events. Setting heat race lineups from the first two nights of racing seem more logical than passing points.
