In this edition of the Quick Six blog, we take a look at some items that have came out of Speedweeks in the early part of this 2017 season.
- The new rule by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on driver tardiness is a needed rule. By having a driver show up late, miss qualifying and heat races, only to run a couple of laps in the B-main and the feature is not fair to the other competitors and makes a mockery of the sport. Provisionals are there to fall back on if having a rough night, not to use just to show up whenever a person wants to.
- Golden Isle Speedway’s move to offer reduced ticket prices appeared to pay off with huge crowds on both nights. Given the track conditions, not sure if fans got their money’s worth.
- If a driver’s on way into a national touring race is using a provisional race after the race, the rule for provisionals needs to be looked at and revised.
- It will be interested to see how things go this season at Volunteer Speedway under the management of Mitch and Tanya McCarter. Anything they do can only be a positive.
- There were impressive runs by several young drivers in Georgia and Florida. The future of the sport appears to be in good hands.
- One national series trolling another national series on social media is unprofessional.
