Michael Page dominant in Southern All Stars win at Boyd’s

Michael Page led all 50 laps

The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series made its way to the Boyd’s Speedway on Friday night to contest their ninth race of the 2021 season. After a dominating night at the Ringgold, GA track it was Michael Page who came away with the win. The Douglasville, GA driver earned $5,000 for his efforts.

A total of 34 cars were signed in for competition.

Sam Seawright proved to be the fastest in Group A qualifying with a lap of 14.547 seconds around the third-mile clay oval to beat out Jadon Frame and John Ownbey.

Michael Page was quickest in Group B time-trials with an effort of 14.738 seconds to top Chase King and Donald McIntosh.

The top-3 from each qualifying group were locked into a dash race to set the first three rows of the main event.

Michael Page earned the pole for the feature by winning the dash race over Sam Seawright, Jadon Frame, Chase King, John Ownbey, and Donald McIntosh.

Tyler Millwood bested Skip Arp, Booger Brooks, Justin Shipley, and Billy Franklin in the first B-main. Then it was Dale McDowell taking the second B-main ahead of Jordan Rodabaugh, Will Roland, Payton Freeman, and Parker Martin.

Page went immediately to the front of the pack at the start of the 50-lap feature with Frame, Seawright, Ownbey and King in his wake. The No. 18x Stinger Race Car quickly began to pull as Page opened up a lead of almost a full straightaway after just five laps. At the same time, McDowell began to climb from his eighth starting spot as he passed by McIntosh to gain the sixth position.

Just two laps later, McDowell claimed fourth when he passed by Ownbey. All the while, the leader of the race was getting further and further away from his pursuers until slower traffic became a factor on the tenth circuit.

With the race running caution free during it early portion, the battles behind the leader were intense as the likes of Seawright, King, McDowell and McIntosh fought with and around slower cars for positions 3 through 6. On lap 18, McDowell took to the outside and made a three-wide pass to clear both King and McIntosh to take the fourth spot.

Page continued to lead Frame by a significant margin at the halfway point as McDowell closed in on Seawright as they fought over third. On lap 29, McDowell took the spot dropping Seawright into a battle with King and McIntosh.

The first yellow flag of the night waved on lap 34 when Dillon Crim slowed. On the ensuing restart, McDowell got around Frame to move into the runner-up position. King then took third away from Frame two laps later while Millwood cracked the top-5.

Disaster struck the fourth running car of Seawright on lap 37 when he spun into the inside wall on the front straightaway. From that point, it would be Page continuing to lead with McDowell keeping pace but never move close enough to mount a serious challenge.
