Mack McCarter, Michael Asberry claim 411 feature wins

Mack McCarter dominated the 604 feature

In a show that was supposed to have included the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series before that national touring series had to cancel its weekend due to concerns over fuel shortages, the 411 Motor Speedway went ahead with its racing program on Friday night. When all was said and done in the Crate Late Model division, it was Mack McCarter who earned the victory. The Gatlinburg, TN  driver took $1,000 away from the Seymour, TN facility.

A total of 14 cars were signed in for competition.

Mack McCarter led the way in qualifying with a lap of 15.094 seconds around the 3/8 mile clay oval besting Bradley Lewelling, Matt Henderson, Jason Cardwell, Rusty Ballenger, Jake Whitehead, Jake Teague, Jed Emery, Josh Henry, and Ross White.

At the start of the 25-lap feature it was McCarter who shot to the front of the pack with Henderson, Lewelling, Cardwell, and Ballenger in his wake. Cardwell slipped by Lewelling for third at the end of the first circuit as McCarter immediately began to pull away from his pursuers.

Further back, Ballenger and Lewelling fought for fourth on the third lap. Two laps later, Lewelling, Ballenger, and Teague went three-wide for fourth with Teague eventually emerging from the battle with the fifth position. By lap 7 the No. 117 had passed by Lewelling to move up to fourth.

McCarter encountered slower traffic on lap 11 but continued to maintain a relatively comfortable advantage over Henderson and Cardwell.

Terry Poore banged the tire barrier at the exit of turn two on lap 19 to bring out the feature’s only caution. On the ensuing restart, Henderson made a bid for the lead but was unable to complete the pass. Then, he fell back into a fight with Teague for the runner-up spot. Teague would emerge from that battle with the position.

But over the closing laps there would be no answer for McCarter as he sailed under the checkered flag for the win.

Feature Finish: 1. Mack McCarter, 2. Jake Teague, 3. Matt Henderson, 4. Jason Cardwell, 5. Rusty Ballenger, 6. Josh Henry, 7. Bradley Lewelling, 8. Greg Martin, 9. Jed Emert, 10. Jake Whitehead, 11. Brodie Sharp, 12. Ruben Mayfield, 13. Terry Poore, 14. Ross White

Michael Asberry

Along with the 604 Late Models, the Open Wheel Modified class was in action on Friday night at the Seymour, TN facility. Michael Asberry outran the field for the victory in that division and the $500 first prize.

Brandon Kinzer turned the fastest lap in time-trials with a lap of 16.091 seconds topping Michael Asberry, Wayne James, Joey Cotterman, Cameron Wilson, Matthew Hopper, Jeff Hamby, and Lee Merritt.

At the start of the 320-lap main event, Asberry took the early lead with Kinzer, James, Cotterman, and Hopper in tow. Jeff Cotterman and Hamby spun to being out a caution on the third lap. Just after the restart, the fourth running car of Joey Cotterman slowed just as a spin at the tail of the field. On that restart, Hamby moved into the fifth positions while Asberry and Kinzer broke away from the rest of the pack.

Hamby got around Hopper for fourth on lap 5 then by James for third on lap 6. At the same time, Kinzer moved in and challenged Asberry for the lead but the No. 56 car held the top spot. For the remainder of the race, Kinzer stayed close but Asberry would eventually score the victory.

Feature Finish: 1. Michael Asberry, 2. Brandon Kinzer, 3. Jeff Hamby, 4. Wayne James, 5. Matthew Hopper, 6. Cameron Wilson, 7. Lee Merritt, 8. Dustin Diden, 9. Larry James, 10. Tyler Strickland, 11. Terry James, 12. Joey Cotterman, 13. Jeff Cotterman
