Logan Roberson claims Tyler County special event

Logan Roberson fought off a mid-race challenge to claim the win

The string of made-for-PPV events continued on Thursday night as DirtonDirt.com broadcast from Tyler County Speedway. At the end of the evening it was former Crate Late Model standout Logan Roberson who scored the Super Late Model victory and his first win at the Middlebourne, WV facility to take the $5,000 back to his Virginia home.

Colton Burdette was the fastest in qualifying as he posted a lap of 12.421 seconds around the quarter-mile clay oval.

Colton Burdette won the first heat race of the night by outrunning Shane Hitt, Alex Feree and Sonny Conley while Mike Pegher took the second preliminary over Max Blair, Jared Miley and Brian Baumberger.

Logan Roberson was victorious in the third heat ahead of Shawn Jett, Mike Benedum and Derek Rogers just before Kyle Thomas scored the win in the fourth and final heat by topping Travis Brown, Steve Weigle and Tim Dohm.

Cody Rogers won the lone B-main used to set the remainder of the starting lineup for the main event.

A redraw among the heat winners place Roberson and Thomas on the front row of the grid with Burdette and Pegher lining up behind them.

Multiple attempts to get the feature underway proved unsuccessful as incidents occurring before the completion of a full lap forced restarts.

Once the 40-lap event got rolling Roberson bolted to the lead with Thomas, Burdette, Pegher and Blair trailing. The top-3 quickly broke away from the pack as they looked to settle the issue among themselves.

By lap 7 the front runners found themselves mired in slower traffic as they worked their way around the tight bull ring. On lap 12 Blair moved by Pegher to grab fourth and began closing the gap between himself and the lead trio.

At the halfway mark Roberson had pulled out to a lead of almost three seconds while Thomas, Burdette and Blair contested the second position. However, a lap 26 caution would erase Roberson’s advantage.

On the ensuing restart, Blair charged to second and began to apply pressure to the race leader. On lap 29 the No. 111 car used a slide job to take the lead away. But Roberson would not be denied as he returned the favor and applied a slider of his own to retake the top spot one lap later.

From that point, Roberson pulled away from Blair and the rest of his pursuers to eventually drive under the checkered flag to score the win.
