Live Updates from the Ultimate SLM Series race at North Georgia

We will be providing live updates from the Ultimate Super Late Models race from the North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, GA for Saturday night, July 12, 2014. Tonight’s updates are being provided by Richard Allen( @RichardAllenIDR on Twitter).

Classes in action: 

Ultimate Super Late Models 40 laps for $4,000-to-win

*Due to my extended travel time, updates of other classes may be limited.

*Please note, this will be my first trip to North Georgia so I cannot guarantee that I will have cell service until I get there.

Other classes in action will be the Crate Late Models, Sportsman, A-Hobby, B-Hobby and Pony.

Time:

Drivers meeting is set for 6:30 with cars to hit the track shortly thereafter.

Weather: 

Weather forecast calls for a daytime high of 90 degrees with virtually no chance for rain.

General Information:

This is the second of a two race weekend for the Ultimate Series. Last night’s event at the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. was won by Randy Weaver.

Dennis ‘Rambo’ Franklin came into the weekend leading the Ultimate SLM Series standings over Jeff Smith, Brandon Overton, Doug Sanders and Jonathan Edwards.

7:00- Track prep almost complete. Drivers meeting coming up soon.

7:35- Drivers meeting is over. The pit area has come to life with the sound of rumbling engines!

7:40- Hot laps are underway.

9:55- Track offials have been working for the past several minutes to remedy a dusty situation in the bottom lane of turns 3&4.

10:35- Feature rolling out. 40 laps for $4000.

10:43- Four wide!

10:45- Green flag!

Halfway caution free. Weaver leads Hickman and Franklin.

Lap 27 caution for Sanders stalled on track. Weaver got out to a big lead early but Hickman closed in traffic. Weaver now leads Hickman, Franklin, Smith(17s), Maddox, Ellis, Cook.

Racing is intense in traffic.

Lap 31 caution for J Chastain up in smoke. Weaver continues to lead Hickman, Maddox, Franklin, Cook, Smith(17s).

Cook trying desperately to make the high line work.

Lap 36 caution for Cloer slow on track. Weaver leads Hickman. Cook making the high line work as he is up to 3rd.

Feature finish: 1. Weaver, 2. Hickman, 3. Maddox, 4. Cook, 5. Smith(17s), 6. Franklin, 7. Ellis, 8. Ridley.

The winner was never in doubt. Cook had the high line rolling until that last caution came out.

The racing in traffic is intense here.

Crate Late Models

Car Count: 15 cars

Heat Results:

Heat 1- 1. Joe Picklesheimer, 2. Jason Deal, 3. Nick Sellers, 4. Brad Thomas, 5. Josh Walker.

Heat 2- 1. TJ Britain, 2. Tanner Works, 3. Colby Kilgore, 4. Riley Thornton, 5. Ricky Smith.

Under red flag on lap 17 of the feature for a wild wreck involving the top-2 cars. Picklesheimer was held up by a slower car when Deal tried to split between them. The hole closed and Deal went airborne while Picklesheimer went head on into the wall. Both drivers appear to be OK. Tanner Works now leads.

Feature Results: 1. Tanner Works, 2. Josh Walker, 3. TJ Brittain, 4. Nick Sellers, 5. Ricky Smith.

Sportsman

Car Count: 6 cars

Heat Results:

Feature Results: 1. Caleb Patton, 2. Junior Whitener, 3. Wesley Seabolt, 4. Coty Long.

Patton passed Seabolt for the lead on lap 5 and drove away. Good battle for 2nd and 3rd.

A-Hobby

Car Count: 6 cars

Heat Results: 1. Beau Bice, 2. Justin Walston, 3. Derek Chapman, 4. Devin Stuart.

Feature Results: 1. Beau Bice, 2. Justin Walston, 3. Derek Chapman

 

David Rogers beat out Jacob Stuart to win the B-Hobby feature. A little extra curricular activities between two drivers who finished further back livened things up.
