Kyle Larson’s expected Lucas Oil entry excites Cherokee and Smoky Mountain fans

Kyle Larson has been announced as a likely entrant at Cherokee and Smoky Mountain

Both the Cherokee Speedway and the Smoky Mountain Speedway have indicated on their respective Facebook pages that NASCAR Cup Series star Kyle Larson will be among those competing in their upcoming Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series races on the weekend just after the July 4th holiday. The driver known as “Yung Money” has recently been on a tear with his No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet winning at total of four events to date including three consecutive points-paying races and the NASCAR All-Star Race.

The Facebook pages of both tracks have seen numerous posts from excited fans regarding the announcement.

The Elk Grove, California native’s success has not been limited to the pavement world as he has won in Midget Sprint Cars, Winged Sprint Cars, and Super Late Models so far in 2021.

Larson will once again drive the No. 6 Longhorn Chassis for K&L Rumley Enterprises at Cherokee and Smoky Mountain. The 28-year-old driver has steered that car to victory already this season in the LOLMDS(All-Tech Raceway) and the Castrol FloRacing Night in America Series(Brownstown Speedway) along with podium finishes in the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series/Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals co-sanctioned race at the Tazewell Speedway and the Karl Kustoms Bristol Dirt Nationals at the Bristol Motor Speedway.

Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina will welcome the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on Thursday, July 8th in the 23rd annual running of the Grassy Smith Memorial. Besides Larson, series regulars such as Jonathan Davenport, Jimmy Owens, Josh Richards, Hudson O’Neal, and points leader Tim McCreadie will be in action. The track is also advertising that National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame member Scott Bloomquist will be among those battling for the $10,000 first prize.

Smoky Mountain Speedway located in Maryville, Tennessee will host the national touring series on back-to-back nights(July 9th & 10th) for the Mountain Moonshine Classic. The same series regulars as are expected for the Cherokee race will likely be there.

The Friday night show at Smoky Mountain will offer a $12,000-to-win payout with the Saturday night event doling out $20,000 to the eventual victor.

Drivers Brandon Overton(76) and Scott Bloomquist(0) will likely be at all three races

These events will not be lacking for star power.

Apart from Larson, Bloomquist, Davenport, Owens, McCreadie, and all of the other drivers who regularly travel with the tour, it is highly likely that the driver who recently took $273,000 away from Eldora Speedway’s Double Dirt Late Model Dream event earlier in June will race. Brandon Overton does not follow any particular series but tends to go where the biggest payouts are offered. There will be none bigger than those planned for the three straight nights of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series action slated for July 8, 9, and 10 at Cherokee and Smoky Mountain.
