Kyle Larson is still alive in the NASCAR Playoffs as he seeks a second NASCAR Cup Series title, but that isn’t the only championship ‘Yung Money’ is vying for.
While neither Kyle Larson nor Rico Abreu need acknowledgement that they are great Sprint Car drivers, both will be racing for even more glory than they have already earned on Tuesday night in the High Limit Sprint Car Series event at Lincoln Speedway Park in Putnamville, Indiana. The $23,023-to-win race will serve as the championship-deciding finale for the series.
Larson enters the night with a 15-point lead over Abreu in the standings after the first 10 races. The High Limit Series, which is conducting its inaugural season, will pay $30,000 to its champion while the runner-up will receive $20,000. The tour is co-owned by Larson and his brother-in-law four-time World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series champion Brad Sweet.
The two California natives come into this race with virtually identical season statistics. Larson, from Elk Grove, has won three High Limit features while scoring 8 top-5 and 10 top-10 results. Abreu, from St. Helena, has earned three wins along with 8 top-5 and 9 top-10 finishes over the course of the campaign.
In order to claim the title, Abreu will have to have a good night and hope for Larson to be a bit off of his game. The High Limit Series doles out 100 points to feature winners with second-place being awarded 95 markers. The third-place finisher gets 92 points then there is a two-point drop off for every position throughout the remainder of the field.
Even if Abreu wins the main event, Larson would clinch the title with a finish of 6th or better. Obviously, the further back in the field Larson finishes, the less Abreu has to do to overcome the 15-point deficit.
But these two drivers won’t be the only Sprint Car aces in the field. Cory Eliason, who sits third in the High Limit standings, will be entered while the two most recent World of Outlaws winners at Pennsylvania’s Port Royal Speedway, Tyler Courtney and Zeb Wise, are expected to compete along with Buddy Kofoid, Justin Peck, Kerry Madsen and several other recognizable names.
The show will be aired live by FloRacing.com.
The championship scenarios are in. π
With a 15-point lead, @KyleLarsonRacin can clinch the title with a top-six run.
Any errors or misfortune, though, and @Rico_Abreu has room to capitalize.
We decide it all on Tuesday at @LincolnParkSpee!
